無妄 (wú wàng) - Sacrifice
無妄 (wú wàng) - Sacrifice
A parable by Osho Rajneesh [Paraphrased]
A man died and found himself in a very beautiful place. A tall stranger in snow-white robes approached him and said that the place he got in was the best place in the Universe.
The man was really surprised, as he was far from considering himself worth such a privilege.
“Here all your wishes will come true in a blink of an eye, whatever you ask for! Try its aid the stranger.”
Being a fine judge of weapons, the man imagined an antique musket with a gems-studded buttstock. Instantly, he felt it in his hand. Oh, my! It was exactly the one he had been dreaming to have! Beyond any doubt, it was the best place in the Universe!
During the next couple of weeks the man indulged himself in all the pleasures he could think of. Women, wine, travels, delicacies, and other revelries were at his disposal 24/7. He was getting tired of it and decided to find the angel. Ready at hand was the tall stranger.
“Everything is awesome and enjoyable here, but you know… Can I help anybody here or sacrifice for the sake of others?” asked the man.
“Nonsense! Who would need anything in a place where absolutely all wishes come true instantly!” was the stranger’s reply.
“Then I dislike your Paradise!” he blurted out.
“Who told you it is Paradise, it is HELL!”

Positions to consider:
- Sacrificing is opposed to being egoistic. It means being willing to leave behind your own needs and serve others. It is compassion, loving everybody, but not yourself. Sacrifice yourself for the sake of your nearest and dearest!
- Your sacrifice is so immense and invaluable, that it can only be repaid by black ingratitude!
- “He who obtains has little. He who scatters has much,” Lao Tzu.
- “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile,” Albert Einstein.
- “Sacrifice is sweeter than engagement,” Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
- Sacrifice is a battle with the Supreme power, rejection of the flow of events. Unsolvable is the issue inside: “Why is the world such a place where all these loveable people have to suffer that much?” The answer, apparently, is as follows: “Because it is the best that can be given to them out of deep love!”
- Sacrifice is love coupled with ignorance. Blocks and challenges have been arranged in our way by the Supreme, God, or our own efforts. A self-sacrificing person doesn’t understand it, he empathizes with you, sacrificing his life in an attempt to alleviate your sufferings, thus magnifying them instead. In such a way, compassion intensifies suffering.
- By giving you obtain, by taking you lose!
- Once identified with all human beings and nature, you will find it natural that sometimes sacrifice is required. In such cases, a sacrifice is not a sign of self-humiliation, but a manifestation of the exalted state of oneness and high spirituality.

- “One’s salvation could only be brought about through his own efforts,” Nikola Tesla.
- “My belief is firm in a law of compensation. The true rewards are ever in proportion to the labor and sacrifices made,” Nikola Tesla, ‘My Inventions’.
